BUYERS - NORTHEAST
Candidates can currently be buying Men’s or Women’s (with Men’s preferred), as client feels that “…a good Buyer is a good Buyer.” However, the candidates selected for this position will buy Men’s. The client is looking to grow and will decide which one of the new Buyer positions would be the best fit for a particular candidate.
Musts are candidates who have at least 2-3 years of buying experience and are on a fast-track career who can show results and specific impacts/accomplishments they’ve made in their buyer roles. Experience in specialty stores and someone who is very fashion-conscious and fashion-forward would be ideal. Preferred experience includes private label and product development knowledge, assortment creation, a good understanding of the financial side of the merchant role, and good negotiation skills.
As far as the client is concerned, a superstar buyer with great instincts is key--the category is not as vital as that the buyer will “get it” and excel. (Isn’t that a refreshing viewpoint from this GMM !!!) The creative side is just as important to this GMM as the numbers side: someone who constantly shops other stores and truly sees what other stores have going on for merchandise selection, someone who brings back ideas and backs up the ideas with observations, analysis, facts, etc. The buyer will be challenged by the GMM to incorporate more fashion merchandise into the mix, so the buyer must be able to support their ideas. In conclusion, the GMM wants and NEEDS buyers who will be able to support his/her recommendations while supporting the client’s mission, which is to grow and diversify the product line.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
